Enjoy a meal at a traditional chip shop

 Your quintessential experience

Enjoy a meal at a traditional chip shop

Don’t leave without treating yourself to a generous portion of fries – it’s a true Northern French tradition!

As simple as it is iconic, you’ll love the know-how of our local frituristes. And between us, you won’t need a map: you’ll find a chip shop on practically every street corner!

Chip shops have style!

One of the first things to do when you arrive is treat yourself to a cheap meal at a local institution. For a true taste of Dunkirk life, head to a traditional chip shop – trust us, it’s an experience in itself!

At the chip shop, wait your turn while browsing the menu: fries, fricadelles and plenty of other options. Your feast is served in a paper tray with salt, vinegar (if you’ve never tried it, now’s the time!) and plenty of mayo!

Sea air works up an appetite!

The first time, you’ll probably get caught out. You each order a large portion of fries because the sea air works up an appetite! Then you realise that the fries spilling out of the paper packet are enough to feed a whole family. What can we say? We have a reputation to uphold – apparently, we’re generous and welcoming!

Enjoy this local favourite in the open air, or find a café where you can sit on the terrace with a good beer from the North.

One thing’s for sure: you’ll be back for another taste before you leave!
