The shipwrecks

On the tracks of Operation Dynamo

Shipwrecks on the beaches

At low tide or underwater, follow in the footsteps of Operation Dynamo, in search of the historic sites scattered along the coastline.

This incredible evacuation operation enabled some 338,000 men to reach England aboard a thousand vessels!

During this major operation, more than 200 boats were sunk, in addition to the 600 Little Ships (small boats), nearly 140 of which were lost.

At low tide, the wrecks emerge from the water: on Zuydcoote beach, a chapter of Second World War history comes to life, including the wreck of the Crested Eagle, a British steamship that took part in Operation Dynamo.

Today, these wrecks have become thriving habitats for the many species that live among them. You may also come across numerous fishermen searching for shellfish.
