Two minutes from the town centre, east of Fort Louis Park, lies Vernaelde Farm, a haven of peace where wild flowers reign supreme.
The estate covers 15 hectares and includes stables, a plant maze, gardens and numerous trees planted in a spiral pattern. Nature lovers can observe pheasants, hedgehogs, woodpeckers, great spotted woodpeckers, falcons, ospreys and grey herons.
The ‘Liberation Trail’ features some remnants of the Second World War, including howitzers, bunkers and a sentry box from the Coudekerque-Branche detention camp.
