The streets smell of mulled wine, cinnamon and gingerbread. The children’s eyes twinkle and the towns have switched on the Christmas lights… Oh yes, the spirit of Christmas has arrived!
And in the Dunkirk area, from Gravelines to Bray-Dunes, the fun is for everyone to enjoy. The programme for the coming month is chock full of events and attractions, like the Christmas parade, a ferris wheel, an ice-skating rink, not to forget the traditional Christmas markets. And, surprise, father Christmas abseils down the Dunkerque town hall and the Gravelines belfry tower. Moments of pure magic for the children, but also for their parents!

Christmas in Dunkirk
In Dunkirk, during a month of celebration, various activities in three different places, an ice rink, a Christmas market and village will put you sparkles in your eyes and in your heart.
Have a leisurely stroll at the Christmas market and its wooden chalets, and enjoy scents of gingerbread and mulled wine. It is a great opportunity to find gift ideas, craft products, local specialties and gourmet delicacies!
From December 9th, 2017, to January 7th, 2018
This year, thanks to the activities in three different places, a magical atmosphere reigns in the town centre. Come to Dunkirk and share the French Christmas atmosphere with the locals.
• Place Jean Bart
A traditional Christmas market and an ice rink
Between scents of gingerbread and mulled wine, you will find many gift ideas: decoration, crafts, textile, leather goods, and gourmet specialties. In the centre of this square, an ice rink, surrounded by pine trees and Christmas lights, will be installed at the foot of the statue of our famous privateer, Jean Bart.
• Place Charles Valentin
In this square, you will discover Santa Claus’ House, surrounded by trees. Come with the family and meet Santa Claus and his friends.
Inside the town hall, you can observe an exhibition of miniature trains.
• Place de la République
Ferris wheel and Magic Mirror
Come spend moments of fun with the family or with friends in our Ferris wheel. From above, you will have a wonderful view on our city.
The shows at the Magic Mirror, a nicely decorated theatre, take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Christmas in Gravelines
From 9th December to 30th December 2017
For its 23rd edition, the Christmas market will gather a hundred exhibitors this year. Many activities for the whole family complement the Christmas market. Elected the most beautiful Christmas market of the Opal Coast, the Gravelines market allows you to find gift ideas and specialties that are essential to the preparation of the holiday season.
• Not to be missed events when you’re with the family or with friends:
- Fireworks display: Saturday, 23rd December 2017, at 10:00 pm
- New Year’s Party: Saturday, 30 December 2017, at 6:00 pm
- The Shooting Star: the Ferris wheel takes you 40 meters high and offers great views on the town and the Christmas market
• For the children:
Carousel, Christmas farm, Christmas workshops and shows (Frozen (10/12), Minions (13/12), a Parade of Teddy Bear (27/12))
• Between shadow and light:
A guided tour to discover the city during the holiday season with a lantern. Warm up around a tasting of local products in one of our guardrooms.
Friday, 15th December and Tuesday, 21st December 2017 at 5:30 pm. €2 per person (free for children under 12 years). Departure at the museum shop at 5:30 pm.
