Located the length of the Aa estuary, this museum transports you back to the days of cod-fishing in Iceland.
Thanks to the scale models and numerous archive documents, the Musée de la Mer presents the stories of these sailors and retraces their lives as well as those of the fishermen's wives.
This offer is suggested by the tourist office*** Gravelines et les Rives de l'Aa
Take a step back in time, to the 19h century, and immerse yourself in the world of fiching "in Iceland"!
Imagine the schooners moored at the port, the men in the process of loading the cargo of salt; the fishermen hugging their wives for the last time, and the women, children and elders gathering on the docks and waving their handkerchiefs... The distrurbance and distress of a departure.
The Musée de la Mer, with its wealth of souvenirs, model boats and old objects, tells the story of this type of very particular fishing, for which the men left between February and April, only to return in September.
