From 6 April to 28 December, Dunkirk will be the Regional Capital of Culture! Dunkirk 2013 is no mere artistic and cultural event; it is a celebration providing insight into what makes the city’s heart beat, bridging cultural divides.

Following the high tide line, sketched out between the coastal towns and villages, Dunkerque Flandre Côte d'Opale and its 1500 acres of dunes (some of which have been listed for their outstanding beauty) have numerous walks through nature to choose from!

The chapel of light

The gothic chancel of Saint John the Baptist church in Bourbourg was reopened to visitors after 60 years of closure! It restoration was entrusted to the English artist, Sir Anthony Caro who arranged his "chapel of light", a monumental collection of 15 sculptures.

Operation Dynamo, "the miracle of Dunkirk"

Dunkirk, the last town to be liberated in 1945 was also the dramatic scene of a key episode at the beginning of the Second World War, Operation Dynamo that resulted in the evacuation of 340,000 allied soldiers to England.
